INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES 

 

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The International Office does not make the international and exchange student experience a priority, and it does not do an adequate job facilitating communication between UT Austin and its incoming and current international/exchange students.

SOLUTION STATEMENT

Create a personalized and efficient experience for prospective and current students at UT Austin to avoid sifting through excess of information, and easily access immediate help and answers to their questions. Additionally, to update students on events happening in Austin, and events specific to international/exchange students.

RESEARCH

“At the beginning I looked at all the emails, but at the end I just ignored them because it was so much.”

“They organized some events but it wasn’t enough. You have to find your friends on your own.”

“I missed international orientation because I was not aware of the dates and I booked my tickets before the dates were sent out. ” 

“I had to pay extra for my flights because the office sent us the visa papers so late that the flights were very expensive.”


We summed these user insights into these key points:

  • Lack of social events 

  • Excess emails 

  • Non-prioritizing of time sensitive issues

  • Important dates not communicated
