BRANDING: Zaum Kenyan Restaurant
THE CHALLENGE
Creating an identity for an imaginary restaurant called “ZAUM” revolving around the concepts of Kenya and Bowls.
THE CONCEPT
Zaum is a high-end restaurant focusing on the playful contrast between dense patterns, vibrant colors and contemporary simplicity.
VISUAL IDENTITY
The Maasai Shuka pattern, deeply embedded within the Kenyan culture, was used to create imagery within the restaurant. The Maasai shield found on the Kenyan flag was streamlined and simplified to create the symbol.
CONCEPT
APPLE Inc. embodies the concept of the restaurant. In combines the complete neutrality of its white walls, glass exterior and plain wooden display tables with the vibrant colors of its products’ backgrounds.
SOLUTION
Bold sans serifs were explored before settling into a self-designed font emphasizing the formal relationship between the letters. Completed with an icon-driven approach with the simplification of the Maasai shield merged with the brand name. This later expanded into a modernized Maasai Shuka design as depicted in the branding items below
